Starting Nursery in September 2025
Children born between 1st September 2021 and 31st August 2022. Our nursery has one intake per year in September and your child must be three years old by 31st August to be considered.
In September 2025, we will be offering 26 spaces for full time nursery (8.45am-3.30pm Monday to Friday) and 11 spaces for morning nursery (8.45am-11.45am Monday to Friday). Our nursery is only open in the school term-time.
Spaces for the morning are part of the 15 hours of early education entitlement, at no cost.
Full time spaces are either:
Extended Entitlement (30 hours) - Available to eligible working families
Privately paid for places - where the family are not eligible for the extended entitlement. This is at a cost of £24 per session. Parents will be asked to pay for places on a termly basis. Payment must be made by the stated deadline, in order to secure the place for the next term. Please note that no refunds will be given for missed sessions, even when absence is notified in advance.
Lunchtime club
For both funded and invoiced places, there is a lunchtime club to cover the 45 minutes between morning and afternoon Nursery sessions. This is at a daily cost of £6 to cover staffing. Please note that your child is not required to stay for this club – you will however need to make appropriate arrangements for their care between 11.45am- 12.30pm.
Hot school meals may be ordered at a cost of £2.92 (subject to change), or a packed lunch may be provided.
Admission Priorities
Applications for Alexandra Primary School Nursery are dealt according to the rules stipulated on the Achieving for Children website.
If there are more applications than there are places available, places will be offered in the following order of priority:
-
Places will be offered firstly to looked after children. Applications made under this criterion must be accompanied by details of circumstance and professionally supported evidence (e.g. from a social worker)
-
Places will then be offered next to children who have a brother or sister (sibling), including an adopted, foster, half or step brother or sister, living at the same address and attending Reception to Year 6 at Alexandra Primary School at the time of admission.
-
Places will then be offered in cases of exceptional family, social or medical need (which must be described on the application and verified by professionally supported evidence) that makes Alexandra Primary School the most suitable one for the individual child.
-
Places will then be offered to children of members of staff who have been employed at the school for two or more years at the time of application and will continue to be employed at the school at the point of admission or the member of staff is recruited to fill a vacant post for which there is a demonstrable skill shortage.
-
The remaining places will be offered to children who live nearest to the school, as measured by a straight line to the nearest school gate. All distances will be measured using the School Admissions’ geographical information system.
Wraparound Care
Children in our nursery may join the wraparound care provided in school. Breakfast club runs from 7.45am - 8.30am, and after school club runs from 3.20pm - 6pm.
